While we specifically need volunteer assistance in the areas below, if you would like to volunteer in another ministry don't forget to check out our ministries page to see if you would like to volunteer in any of them.
We need a team of 4 representatives one from each parish to be the contact person who will collect and submit to the website coordinator ministry updates. We will ask the ministries to hand in a short statement of One Star: one accomplishment this year that went well and One Wish: something they hope for the coming year. We could also include in the update how the past year looked, how many volunteers are currently in the ministry, how many more the minstry would like to obtain in the upcoming year, as well as testimonies of what this particular ministry means for someone. We would also encourage these representatives to reach out to ministry leaders at their parish to see, encourage and inform them of this new area on the website. Please call the office and leave your name and email/phone number so we can connect.
We need someone (or more than one person working with each other) at each parish who would be willing to keep an eye on a library shelf. This is not signing in or out sort of library, rather it is a borrow and share bookshelf of good theological, spiritual and inspirational materials that can be taken on the honour system. If the bookshelf gets low, that person would add more books. If your parish runs out of books, that person could let us know and they would help us to move more books over. We have been offered a large collection from a parishioner that is enough for all four parishes. This could go in the social space where coffee time is or in the front entrance of the church if there is room. Please call the office and leave your name and email/phone number so we can connect.
We need a volunteer willing to take on the prayer line in Simcoe. By offering a phone
number and an email address, they would receive prayer requests from parishioners and share them with the prayer line group. This could be set up like a phone tree, so it is less work, if desired. And yes, you can pray with the person when they call in as well. You set your schedule of calls with your group. There is already a group of people on the prayer line, but we can advertise for more participants whenever you wish. Please contact Kathryn Heemskerk, Pastoral Minister at [email protected] if you think you would like to do this.
We are looking for a retired teacher/teachers or a parent/parents who has/have the
interest and ability to lead face to face lessons with kids and parents about First
Reconciliation and First Communion. This is 2 lessons for each Sacrament. November is the month for First Reconciliation and usually April is about the month for First
Communion but that depends on where Easter falls. The team that takes this on (can be one person or a few, depending on who is interested) would have an email to
communicate with parents so they can share missed materials, send reminders, and
follow up when a family misses their class. Because they are working with children, they will need a police check and need to sign an oath of confidentiality.
Please contact: Kathryn or Father Charles if this is something you could help us do. If doing it at a weekend is not good, it is your lesson, so we can see if a weeknight or a school-by-school approach works better. All these things can be figured out together.
We need more Sunday school teachers. We have a few at St Mary and a few at St
Bernard. I know St Mary’s needs more. I have three/four people who I am in the early
steps of trying to ignite for St Cecilia’s, which will begin on the first Sunday in May. But since we are just in the beginning stage, we would gladly accept a few more moms or dads to join in. I have not got a team at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs. We have someone willing to be the coordinator through whom communications flow. Once a year I work with that person to make sure paperwork is up to date and supplies are stocked and when we are starting or stopping. The bare minimum is two people, but it is so much better if we have a team of 8. You can alternate weeks or months. You decide that amongst yourselves. Please contact the office for a volunteer police check package if you are interested. (we do accept police checks from other job places as long as we can have a physical copy and it is no more than 5 years old).
